The surgical operations which permit to treat unstuck ears, are called " otoplasties" .

The operating mode of anaesthesia (chosen by the anesthetologist in agreement with the patient, after consultation of preoperative anaesthesia) can be :

  • a local anesthesia.
  • a neuroleptanalgesia .
  • a general anesthesia

This personalized choice is done according to the age, the previous medical history, the predictable duration of the intervention, but also the criteria of operating comfort.

These interventions are not painful, when they are correctly taken care: administration of adapted medications and adequate dressings.

Intervention consists mainly in remodelling cartilages. For it it is necessary to practise an incision on the posterior face of the pavilion, to modify the armature of the ear under control of view. To obtain a durable result, the surgeon sets up stitches on the cartilages which maintain new forms; then closes the initial incision before setting up a dressing. The final scars are placed in hidden areas.

They allow to re-form the insufficient cartilaginous folds and to restore a natural and harmonious shape. They are performed from the age of 7 years, under general anesthetic with a short hospitalization of 24 hours.

They can be also made in the adolescence or even in the adulthood, according to the same process (except the type of anaesthesia which can be modified: neurolept analgesia; and time of hospitalization which can be reduced at 6 o'clock).

Usual postoperative suites are:

  • Hospitalization of 24 hours, allowing permettant supervision.
  • Existence of ecchymosis during 15 days.
  • Postoperative insensibility of ears during 2 months.
  • Wearing of a dressing during 20 nights
  • Sport break during 3 weeks
  • First shampoo after 3 days.
